"You can go to 12 years of school and still come out being a dumbass."
"Everybody can get angry, that's easy. But getting angry at the right person, with the right intensity, at the right time, for the right reason and in the right way, that's hard." - Aristotle

I think that's a very difficult question and if we don't agree on the definitions, we'll quickly be disagreeing a lot. Here are two definitions, one for each, that I can agree with:

    Intelligence:
A very general mental capability that, among other things, involves the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly and learn from experience. It is not merely book learning, a narrow academic skill, or test-taking smarts. Rather, it reflects a broader and deeper capability for comprehending our surroundingsĀ—"catching on," "making sense" of things, or "figuring out" what to do.

    Education:
A rather complete definition and the problems of the old definition can be found here. I'd sum up my views on it with: Education is the process of forming a (young) person into a socially acceptable person. This includes imparting knowledge and manners, but also critical thinking, general competences in a variety of subjects, critical assessment of media (one of the most important aspects of education, IMO) and an opportunity for the pupil to assess their intrinsic motivations toward a subject.

If these definitions are accepted, the difference and the saying becomes quite clear: Intelligence is something that everyone has, regardless of their education, education is something almost anyone can get, provided they have a minimum of intelligence (generally measured in IQ, the threshold being 80, I believe) and money. Or in other words: A person can be intelligent, even if they were never educated.

    Does that answer your question?
