im now seriously considering moving to canada after college.... this country is going downhill, we have bad rep with pretty much every county in the world... im getting out as soon as i get a degree
in part because i have a funny feeling that republicans will take over the white house, senate, and house, in the next set of elections, i dont really like eather party, im more inclined to democrats, but i disagree with both methods, democrats = throw money at things, and republicans= disagree with democrats at all costs... our healthcare is fucked up, we have almost a 3 trillion dollar debt (mostly to china)... we are getting fatter, and i cant stand evangelical christians who are the majority in most of my country.... where as canada, good health care, large liberal atheist population, and british columbia is my deffonition of bueaty... so there ya go... im out of this country

Moving out of the country isn't going to "fix" your problems. And believe me when I say moving to Canada isn't the solution. I love Canada AND Canadians (generally, though there are a few arrogant assholes who try to be "better than XXX"), but their country is just as a mess as the rest of them out there. Different problems, but problems nonetheless.Death is life's way of telling you that you've been fired.

I've seen plenty of fat Canadians. Also have seen "super religious"... BC doesn't have all of those mosques for no reason. ;) Close minded? Most every god damned person on this planet is close minded... They just THINK they are open minded. It's only when you are willing to understand both sides of a situation are you truly being open minded... But most have already made up their minds. Good for nothing? If the US was "good for nothing" then why did the majority of the other "modern civilizations" industries collapse when we had the funding issue here in the US? Because they rely on the US more than they wish to admit publicly. And as for being pricks, well, I've met a prick in every country that I've met more than two people from... There are assholes out there in every avenue of life and every country on the planet. That's just humanity "at it's finest."

BC is beautiful, but so is Washington, Oregon and Idaho. If you decide to move up there, avoid Penticton as it has a nasty little meth issue.Death is life's way of telling you that you've been fired.

i hear you... i still want to live in BC though, yes washington is simmilar, but its just the thing ya know, i got it planned out allrealdy lol, ima live in small house near a mountian and a lake, ill have 1 siberian husky named Akilla and a german shepherd named Voltie (after Voltaire)... ill go on long hikes, camp, and work as a remote CISCO engineer from the house (ive looked all this up, many CISCO engineers work remotely from their homes)... live a simple life, and eat a shitload of ramen noodles... and if a woman comes into the picture then all the better. :)

yet im torn, i am interested in computers and i understand CSCO network structue, yet i WANT to do somthing in ecology, somthing to help the planet, but i doubt i can live in my dream house with that, if i decided to work with the ice cores in antarctica or somthing i think Akilla could do it, but i doubt that Voltie could (i dont have eather dog currently... im getting them after i graduate college), but i doubt i would decide to go there... do u guys think there are any jobs involving studying global warming in BC, i would assume so... but i dont know for sure...

You could if you worked long enough to buy the land and build the house, then put a full garden and animal farm together (gotta have protein with your vegetables) and be self sustaining. This is THE best thing we can do for the planet at this point... Become as self sustainable as possible so that we do not depend solely upon the modernization of industrialization.

And if you yearn to be an ecologist, then be one... You don't want to live your life doing a job when you wish you were doing something else, you know? Love what you do and it's no longer work.Death is life's way of telling you that you've been fired.

If all of us intelligent people moved and stopped voting, the United States would just get worse. You can't leave, people like you and I are our country's only hope. We must vote and stop these Conservative Christian fuckfaces from taking over our country, not run away from them. If we all leave, the world's most powerful military will be in the hands of Crusading Christian Dumbfucks who will most likely destroy the world. At least move back for Election Day.I am immortal. Posted By: godlessif you ask me, its a lost cause here, in other counties there is still hope, but have you looked at the majority of our country latley? we intelligent people are fucked, its going to be like that movie idiocrocy soon...

A common misconception that people form in watching the media and listening to popular political activists is they assume those represent the rest of us.

Remember that to have an intensely held position is typically to have a radical position. Which means it's the people on the fringe of issues that are the most visible. Also called the silent majority.

So while the religious right have taken over the Republican Party which brings issues to the forefront like abortion or homosexuality, the majority of the population really couldn't care less. It's not a lost cause here, it's simply as diverse as it has always been.
Also, you are getting the majority if not all of your news from within the US. When was the last time you heard about things coming out of the UK or Canada besides Global issues? The rise of creationism in the UK is still booming. What do you even know about the goings on in Canada?
To say that the US is a lost cause is to ignore the rest of the world. The majority of people here are just like you and me. Except they believe in a god. But since when has that been only for the unintelligent? We are great at compartmentalizing separate beliefs after all.
It almost sounds like you think atheists are the only intelligent people.

Canada isn't really all that special, as a Canadian, I would call my fine country Diet America. Or America-Lite if you prefer. If you turn the US sideways then you get pretty similar orientation of rednecks to city folk too.

its boring as shit... and we do have rednecks, if you go out to the boonies, the schools depend on where you are as they are in most places i go to a good high school, but if you go to bridgeport (DA GETTO) then you have the shitty schools... but NOTHING happens here, a wendys opening was one of the biggest social events of the year in my town..

Sounds like you need to move to California or New York. Or Seattle. Lots of diverse options in the US. No need to bring Canada into this ;p

I think you'll love Canada, I know I did. I lived most of my life there (just came back involuntarily to Brazil 2 weeks ago), and most of what has been said here is true. It can be boring, and there are rednecks, but they won't be anywhere near you if you move to BC (I lived in Ontario, = British Columbia - beauty). However, the Canadian economic position is very much favorable to the US, and the country is much more liberal (don't let the ruling conservatives scare you, the Canadian political spectrum is centered far to the left *relative to the US). Saying you are an atheist will still turn heads there, but it will not (in my experience) trigger the anger and involuntary soiling of the pants I hear we cause back in the states.

You're not going to to find a safe haven from ignorance, you have to decide whether you actually want to go to BC, or if you just want to leave the US, I\m sure you'll be supported here either way.Knowing what I know now I now know I knew nothing before.

Well, I would certainly hope no one has ever gotten that response, that was just my rather strange choice of rhetoric because I secretly really want him to move to Canada, we need more people, one of the lower population densities in the world.Knowing what I know now I now know I knew nothing before.

If you want to get away from the rednecks and conservatives you should come to San Francisco or Seattle or any other biggish city on the west coast (or east cost, for that matter, like New York). SF is a pretty fucking liberal place. Liberals, democrats, green party members EVERYWHERE!! And our gay pride parade fucking rocks (because, duh, it's SF).
It's mostly the middle of the country, I think, to which the conservative Christian rednecks seem to flock."I don't intend to achieve immortality through my work. I intend to achieve it through not dying." -Woody Allen
